Back at South Boston
Andy Santerre will be making his first NASCAR Busch Series start at South Boston Speedway since July 25, 1998, when he finished 15th during his rookie campaign. After only a couple of weeks back from a four-month layoff due to a broken leg, Santerre failed to qualify for last year's race. However, Team Rensi Motorsports, with David Blankenship behind the wheel, qualified ninth for the 1999 Textilease/Medique 300. Blankenship crashed and finished 29th.

Test session
Santerre and the No. 25 Lance Snacks Chevrolet team tested at Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway on Wed., June 7, in preparation for both South Boston and the June 17 Myrtle Beach 250. Lance crew chief David Ifft said the test session went well for the team, especially on longer runs, and that the Lance Chevrolet was among the fastest cars there. Among those who also tested on Wednesday, of which there were approximately 10 teams, were: Ron Hornaday, Casey Atwood and Jason Schuler.

Santerre in 2000
The Textilease/Medique 300 will be Santerre's seventh race in 2000 and the first of six consecutive races in the Lance Snacks Chevrolet. Santerre's best finish was a sixth-place run at New Hampshire in May. He's coming off a 39th-place finish at Dover last weekend after his engine failed. Kenny Wallace will return behind the wheel of the Lance Chevy on July 29 for the CarQuest Auto Parts 250 at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill.

Santerre on South Boston
"We're really looking forward to South Boston. It's a short track, and I usually do well on short tracks. Qualifying has been the problem for me at those places, so hopefully we can go there, work together and have a good run and put this Lance Snacks Chevrolet where it belongs, up front. We've had a tough stretch here the last few weeks, but it's got to get better because I know we can get better. I know we're a better team than this."

Ifft on South Boston
"You've got to qualify well there so that you can be up front and pick a good pit position. You've also got to try and have good tires on it at the end of the race. Hermie Sadler won a couple of times there by having fresh tires, so that's the kind of strategy you have to have at a place like South Boston.
