ROUGH DAY AT THE BEACH: Santerre is coming off a 19th-place finish in the Myrtle Beach 250 last Saturday night. However, the Lance Snacks team posted its best qualifying effort of the season, starting the 250-lap event from the fourth position.
NEW CREW CHIEF: Greg Ely, former crew chief for the No. 75 and No. 11 NASCAR Winston Cup teams, has been hired as the crew chief for the No. 25 Lance Snacks Chevrolet. Ely, 43, began his duties on Monday after Team Rensi Motorsports consolidated its Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series operations into a single location in Charlotte, N.C.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Andy Santerre will be making his third NASCAR Busch Series start on the Watkins Glen International road course. In his rookie season in 1998 he started eighth and finished 12th. Last season, in his first race back from a four-month layoff due to a broken leg, he started 10th and finished 30th, five laps down to winner Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
SANTERRE ON WATKINS GLEN: "Road racing has been pretty good to me. But you never know, anything can happen. Normally I'm pretty good on the road course. I've qualified in the top-10 every time I've been there. I hope we can do it again this week."
ELY ON WATKINS GLEN: "Although I've only been here this week, I'm very optimistic about this weekend. I've been involved in a few cars that have gone to Watkins Glen and run well. I think I can bring that knowledge to the table and Andy's knowledge of the racetrack and help us get a really good finish this weekend.
DOUBLE DUTY: In addition to driving the No. 25 Team Rensi Motorsports Lance Snacks Chevrolet, Santerre will also pilot a truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Bully Hill 150 on Saturday. The truck is owned by an acquaintance of Santerre's, Briggs Cunningham, but will be run under the Andy Santerre Motorsports banner. It is the second time Santerre will have driven an NCTS vehicle. The first time was in 1997 at Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway, when he took over for Cunningham's son, Brian, during the second half of the race.
NIGHT IN THE HEIGHTS: Santerre will participate in the annual "NASCAR Night in the Heights" event in Elmira Heights on Thursday, June 22. Santerre will sign autographs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
