TRACK: Nazareth Speedway, 1-mile paved oval
MEDIA: Television - ESPN, 12:30 p.m.; Radio - MRN, 12:30 p.m.
NO OFF WEEKEND: Lance Snacks Chevrolet driver Andy Santerre did not join his fellow competitors in taking last weekend off. Santerre journeyed back to one of his favorite racetracks, New Hampshire International Speedway, to participate in the NASCAR Busch North Series thatlook.com 100. With little preparation, Santerre qualified 11th and finished third.
GATEWAY TESTING: In preparation for the upcoming CarQuest Auto Parts 250 at Gateway International Raceway, driver Kenny Wallace and the Lance Snacks team tested at the 1.25-mile facility on Monday this week. Crew chief Greg Ely said the test went well and that the team should be well prepared when it makes the trek to the St. Louis area for the July 29 nighttime event.
TAKING ON NAZARETH: Andy Santerre will be making only his second NASCAR Busch Series start at Nazareth Speedway. He missed last year's race due to an injury, but qualified 24th and finished 34th at Nazareth in his rookie campaign in 1998. He dropped out after 114 laps due to handling problems on his car.
SANTERRE ON NAZARETH: "Nazareth is a tough place, it's every man for himself there. I don't know of anybody who has said they have conquered Nazareth. There's no track that's similar. You've got to have a good handling car and stay up front. Nazareth has a tendency to collect cars. If you avoid mishaps, most likely you'll have a chance to be there at the end. It's an oval, but it's got some extra corners. There are blind spots and it's hard to see through the turns."
ELY ON NAZARETH: "I've never raced there, but from what I've been told you need two spotters at Nazareth. You can't see the whole track from any one position. It's halfway between and oval and a road course. It's tough to see the turns the way they're configured. Andy's done a great job since I've been here, and I know he'll continue that trend in Nazareth."
APPEARANCES: Santerre will visit the E.W. Knauss & Son, Inc., facility in Quakertown, Pa., on Thursday, July 13, from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. for an autograph session and to meet with employees. The company makes Bull & Hannah Meat Snacks, an associate sponsor on the No. 25 Lance Chevy. He'll also be a guest on the Busch Series weekly teleconference on Tuesday, July 18, which gets under way at 2:30 p.m.
